Agreement with TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM includes all of Türkiye’s 200+ universities
HOBOKEN, N.J. – March 21, 2023 – Wiley, one of the world’s largest publishers and a global leader in scientific research and career-connected education, today announced a new three-year open access agreement with The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM) to begin on January 1, 2023.
This agreement is the first of its kind in Türkiye and includes all Turkish universities, with the option to add newly established universities with no additional fee. Participants can read and publish in Wiley’s complete portfolio of nearly 2,000 hybrid and gold open access journals, including Hindawi journals. Researchers affiliated with 236 institutions across Türkiye can publish more than 4,500 articles open access during the three-year agreement.
“Wiley is accelerating the growth of open access publishing across Türkiye,” said Kathryn Sharples, Vice President, Open Research, Wiley. “We are delighted to help showcase the exceptional research conducted at over 200 Turkish universities.”
“W have been championing open access for a long time and the new Wiley- TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM agreement is a major step on that road, allowing open access publishing for significant numbers of articles from Türkiye. TÜBİTAK is committed to supporting the open science and open access movements, and as part of our efforts, our Open Science Policy was adopted by the TÜBİTAK Board of Directors in 2019,” said Mehmet Mirat Satoglu, TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM Director.
“These steps help align the Turkish Research Area and the European Research Area, increasing the visibility and impact of our scientific publications. Within this framework, as other consortia and countries around the world have done, we signed our first ‘read & publish’ agreement at the national level with Wiley in February 2023 to cover the period of 2023-2025. We hope this agreement will contribute to the global efforts towards achieving our common Open Science goals.”
Wiley has strong momentum in advancing open access partnerships, having signed more than 60 agreements around the globe. This year alone, Wiley has established many new agreements which span countries, including in , Hong Kong and the Czech Republic.
